A three days Polio eradication campaign commencing from January 19 to January 21 was formally kicked off here at the FATA Secretariat Monday Morning. Inaugurated by the honorable Additional Chief secretary FATA Mohammad Azam Khan amid the pledge to make the drive most effective and successful, the fresh Polio campaign targets to vaccinate around 0.850 million children all over the FATA including 47000 kids in the North Waziristan agency. The ACS FATA dispensed polio drops to the children as Secretary Law & order FATA Mr. Shakeel Qadir, Director Health Services FATA Dr. Zafeer Hussein and other high officials of the FATA secretariat graced the occasion. "The silver lining in the fresh Polio drive is that inaccessibility to certain troubled areas that once stood at 30% , has been reduced to only 3%. Some 18500 children in Tirah Kukkikhel built and Tirah upper comprising Mastak, Nari Baba, Kamber Khel and Sandana in Khyber agency, besides 6500 kids in Shaktoi are going to miss the current campaign owing to inaccessibility". However, a special campaign is being planned for the Bara area and it is likely to kick off in the last week of January 2015. In all 2653 teams that include Mobile, Fixed and Transit teams comprising specially trained Polio volunteers have been assigned to conduct door to door and fixed sites vaccination in the entire FATA including both North and South Waziristan agencies. It may be recalled that in FR Bannu inactivated Polio drive was launched from January 5 to January 11 vaccinating more than 98% children between the age of 4 to 23 months, of NWA and host community. This was, in fact the first ever initiative in the county country, introduced in FATA. The objective of this exercise was to rapidly boost the immunity of the children repeatedly missed in the successive Anti-polio drives. In North and South Waziristan agencies, it is worth mentioning, the last three rounds of Anti Polio drives conducted in the year 2014 remained quite successful.
