A three days Polio eradication campaign commencing from January 19 to January 21 was formally kicked off here at the FATA Secretariat Monday Morning.
Inaugurated by the honorable Additional Chief secretary FATA Mohammad Azam Khan amid the pledge to make the drive most effective and successful, the fresh Polio campaign targets to vaccinate around 0.850 million children all over the FATA including 47000 kids in the North Waziristan agency.
The ACS FATA dispensed polio drops to the children as Secretary Law & order FATA Mr. Shakeel Qadir, Director Health Services FATA Dr. Zafeer Hussein and other high officials of the FATA secretariat graced the occasion.
"The silver lining in the fresh Polio drive is that inaccessibility to
certain troubled areas that once stood at 30% , has been reduced to
only 3%. Some 18500 children in Tirah Kukkikhel built and Tirah upper
comprising Mastak, Nari Baba, Kamber Khel and Sandana in Khyber agency, besides 6500 kids in Shaktoi are going to miss the current campaign owing to inaccessibility".
However, a special campaign is being planned for the Bara area and it
is likely to kick off in the last week of January 2015.
In all 2653 teams that include Mobile, Fixed and Transit teams
comprising specially trained Polio volunteers have been assigned to
conduct door to door and fixed sites vaccination in the entire FATA
including both North and South Waziristan agencies.
It may be recalled that in FR Bannu inactivated Polio drive was
launched from January 5 to January 11 vaccinating more than 98%
children between the age of 4 to 23 months, of NWA and host community.
This was, in fact the first ever initiative in the county country,
introduced in FATA. The objective of this exercise was to rapidly
boost the immunity of the children repeatedly missed in the successive
In North and South Waziristan agencies, it is worth mentioning, the
last three rounds of Anti Polio drives conducted in the year 2014
remained quite successful.
